OverDrive Audio & eBooks
Training available for new Libby reading app
Libby is a one-tap reading from the library to read and listen to books electronically. (Overdrive app will be phased out sometime in Summer 2021.)
A free Libby Patron Training Webinar, was hosted by the OverDrive Digital Bookmobile Team. Sessions included three ‘Getting Started with Libby’ sessions as well as a ‘Libby Deep Dive’ session. (Trainings were held on Feb. 4. A link to the recorded session is below.)
The Getting Started with Libby session will get you up to speed on everything you need to know to use Libby – the one tap reading app, including:
- Finding your library and signing in
- Navigating the app
- Browsing and searching for titles
- Borrowing titles and placing holds
- Managing notifications
- and much more...
Crete Public Library provides patrons access to online, downloadable audiobooks and ebooks through OverDrive, offered through the Nebraska Library Commission. Patrons will need either an individual or a family library card in good standing. With financial assistance from the Friends of the Crete Public Library, the library is also able to offer OverDrive Advantage, titles exclusively available to Crete patrons and found by search for Crete Advantage or Crete OverDrive in the catalog.
AudioBooks are available in two formats: as a WMA audio book or as a MP3 AudioBook; eBooks may be available in three formats: as an Adobe EPUB eBook, Adobe PDF eBook, or as a Kindle eBook. The website provides information about the many different devices which can be used to download these types of books.
Log in to the catalog with your library card number and your phone number (don’t include area code, unless it is not 402, and omit the dash between the numbers.) Titles available from OverDrive will have a location of 'Internet' and a label of OverDrive.
- Patrons may borrow a total of six items at one time.
- AudioBooks check out for 7 or 14 days.
- eBooks check out for 7, 14 or 21 days.
When you’ve located a title, click on the book cover. More information will appear about it, including the duration and format of the title, the devices that will play it, a brief summary of the book and author information, and other digital rights information. At this point, the title can be added to your cart to check out, placed on hold if currently checked out, or added to your wish list for future possible check out. While the OverDrive books you check out will be assigned to you, they will not be included in your circulation record on the library’s Apollo online catalog.
Hold and Redelivery
Libby notifications will alert users when their holds become available. We will also add a “Notifications” section to your OverDrive website and the OverDrive app. After receiving notification that a hold is available, users can:
- Borrow the title within three (3) days.
- Suspend the hold by selecting “deliver later.” This option passes the book to the next person in line while maintaining the user’s place on the waitlist. After the suspension period (set by the user), the user will be able to borrow the book when the next copy is available.
- Cancel the hold.
If the user takes no action, their hold will automatically be suspended as a one-time courtesy for seven (7) days. If no action is taken a second time, the hold will be canceled automatically.
