Veteran recognition bricks available for Memorial Day

Order by March 29 for placement in City Park monument

The City Park Veterans Monument is located in the northwest corner of the park; Crete, NE.

The first engraved bricks were placed in the City Park Veterans Monument last month and while orders are processed anytime, forms submitted by March 29 are insured placement in time for Memorial Day.

The veterans area took place last year next to the Sherman tank in the northwest corner of the park, between the corner of 12th and Linden Ave. and the post office drive. City of Crete Public Works crews crafted oversized wooden easels to pair with large concrete frames made by a local contractor. The Street Department crew poured a decorative concrete surround for the tank.

Engraved bricks recognizing the service of local military veterans will be placed in the concrete frames as they are ordered and completed, however, the March 29 order deadline will make sure those bricks will be in place by Memorial Day for families and friends wishing to honor veterans at that time.

Each order needs to be proofed and corrections made before it is sent for production. It typically takes six weeks to receive engraved bricks once the order form is received by the city.

Order forms are available online at the link below and in the City Hall Utility Office to purchase recognition bricks for $75 each. Each veteran’s name, dates and branch of service, and war or conflict in which he or she served can be displayed on three lines of text available on each brick. Forms and payment must be returned to the Utility Office. Please call with questions or concerns, 402.826.4312.

The subject of each brick must be a current or past reserve or active duty member of the U.S. Armed Forces: Air Force, Army, Navy, Coast Guard, or Marine Corps, including the Army National Guard and Air National Guard. He or she should have a connection or association to Crete, such as: relative of a community member, live or once lived in Crete, were stationed at the Crete armory or were employed in Crete.
