Public Comment and Agenda Item Requests

Regular meetings of the Crete City Council are held on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 6 p.m.; Council Standing Committees may meet prior. All meetings are held in the Council Chambers or Meeting Room, second floor, City Hall, 243 East 13th Street, unless otherwise stated. Meetings are open to members of the public. Contact City Hall with questions about upcoming meetings.

Public Notices for dates and times of upcoming meetings of the Crete City Council, committees, and appointed boards are published in the local newspaper (The Crete News) and posted in three public locations in accordance with the Open Meetings Act (Nebraska Revised Statute 84-1407-1414). The city’s online calendar includes all upcoming city meetings and meeting agendas with set items for discussion and/or action are available online. 

Agendas can include approval of minutes of recent meetings, passage or denial of ordinances adding to or amending city code, passage or denial of resolutions for city action, purchases, policy changes, public hearings on property or zoning matters, items for other city action or approval, and officer reports from department heads.

During a City Council meeting: 

Items listed on the agenda may be considered in any order.

Petitions - Communications - Citizen Concern:

If a person wants to address the council with general comments or concerns not related to a specific agenda item, time may be allotted under the “Petitions - Communications - Citizen Concerns,” portion of the meeting:

  • Citizen testimony may be limited to 3 minutes per person.
  • Please do not repeat testimony that has already been heard.
  • No action can be taken on matters presented under this title except to answer any questions or to refer the matter for further action.

Public Comments

If a person has comments on a scheduled agenda item within the meeting, time may be allotted when the item comes up for discussion.

Request an agenda item:

The mayor and council may consider requests for agenda items in advance of upcoming meetings. Interested parties are encouraged to fill out a request form and return it in one of the following ways:

  • electronic fillable pdf form form graphic - please complete and attach to an email to the City Clerk's office.
