The library at a glance:

• Welcomes 40,000 patron visits annually
• Circulates 70,000 library books and media annually
• Collection of over 25,000 print books, audiobooks, and DVDs
• Computer access during 4,200 visits annually

Crete Public Library is devoted to serving the residents of Crete and surrounding areas with a variety of resources. The library promotes literacy, computer skills, and life-long learning through well-stocked print/eBook/audiobooks, as well as enriching programs. The new library building opened in January 2020 with an adjacent public park. Crete Public Library is accredited through the Nebraska Library Commission Silver Level through 2026.

All interested patrons are welcome to sign up for a Crete Public Library card. There are no residency requirements or fees associated with card signup. Sign up at the library or online at the link below.

Proof of identification and address:

• Adult patrons are required to show proof of identification and current address with a driver’s license or other picture ID.
• Children 15 years old and younger must have a parent’s signature on their application, along with their parents’ driver’s license number and address verification.
• Patrons may be asked to bring a piece of mail to verify their current address.  

Service to library patrons will not be denied or abridged because of gender, age, religion, race, social, economic, or political status. 

Crete Public Library patrons can pay the following online using the Payport system from the State of Nebraska: overdue fines, and material replacement fees. Make an online library payment

Check out the resources and services available to Crete Public Library patrons and cardholders:

• Meet the library staff
• Borrow & Reserve Materials (drive-thru pickup window available)
  • Books, audio books, cake pans and DVDs may be checked out for three weeks; magazines may be checked out for one week.
  • Individual cardholders may checkout up to twenty (20) items; family cardholders may checkout up to forty (40) items; DVDs are limited to eight per household.
