City Spring Cleanup activities May 1-7

Transfer Station specials; schedule appliance pickups by May 5

City Spring Cleanup events, May 1-7.

The City of Crete will hold the annual Spring Cleanup May 1-7, with Transfer Station specials on two days, major appliance pick-up, and Pinnacle Bank's community shred event.

(An outside agency is conducting a Household Hazardous Waste collection on Saturday, April 30 at Tuxedo Park in Crete. This will include cleaning and lawn chemicals, paint, used oil, etc. See more details. Saline County's crap tire cleanup in May 20-22. See more details.)

Transfer Station Specials: No fees will be charged at the Transfer Station for major appliances delivered on Tuesday, May 3 or Saturday, May 7; yard waste or brush and metal or iron items can be dropped off for free. All appliances with freon must have it removed and tagged prior to disposal.

Fees are charged for certain garbage items and a coupon is available from the local newspaper advertisement in The Crete News on April 20 and 27 or downloadable flyer (link below) for Crete residents only to receive $5 off a load of refuse taken to the Transfer Station. (Multiple coupons can be used for multiple trips - see coupon details.)

Transfer station regular hours are Tuesdays, from 1 to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The station is located 1/2 mile north of Highway 33 and Boswell Avenue on the east side of the road (478 County Road 2300). Find out what materials are accepted at the Transfer station.

Curbside Pick-Up of Major Appliances: This service is offered by the City Public Works Department to Crete residents who call ahead to arrange a pick-up before Thursday, May 5 at 5 p.m. Pick-ups will be made Wednesday-Friday, May 4, 5, and 6. Call the Public Works office at 402-826-4312. 

Appliances with freon must have it removed and tagged; no electronics. Pick-ups will not be done for calls made after the deadline.

The Transfer Station is located at 478 County Road 2300 (North Boswell) for free disposal of yard waste and disposal of large loads of household trash with associated fees; special services are available during Spring Cleanup days, May 3 and 7.
Community Shred Event: Pinnacle Bank, at 143 East 13th Street, will host a community shred day on Friday, May 6 from 9 to 11 a.m. when residents can bring old and unwanted documents to be shred for free. Please no three-ring binders; maximum of 10 boxes per person. Participants do not have to be a Pinnacle customer to bring documents for shredding.

Pinnacle Bank will also collect personal hygiene products for Blue Valley Community Action - Saline County Food Pantry. BVCA suggests the following items: laundry soap, toilet paper, pancake mix/syrup, peanut butter, jelly, granola bars, and cereal.

Downtown Cleanup DayMembers of the Crete Volunteer Fire Department will wash down Main Ave. on Sunday, May 1 at approximately 7 a.m. kicking off a downtown cleanup day. Vehicles along Main, from 9th to 14th streets, will need to be moved by 6:30 a.m. on Sunday. Crete Police officers will assist with traffic control support. Downtown property and business owners are encouraged to continue cleanup activities by sweeping sidewalks in front of their stores and properties and cleaning front windows.
