City Spring Cleanup activities in May

New Bulk Item Pick-up, Shred Day at Pinnacle Bank, Transfer Station specials; schedule appliance pickups by May 7

The City of Crete Annual Spring Cleanup activities will take place in May.

The City of Crete will hold the annual Spring Cleanup in May with regular activities, plus a new service for Waste Connections households in Crete.

New in 2026:

  • Waste Connect Mobile App: Crete residential garbage and recycling customers can use the WasteConnect mobile app to check route calendars, report issues, search proper disposal of items, and schedule a bulk 'special collection' pickup.
  • Bulk Item Pick-up: Crete Waste Connections households now have two (2) bulk item pickups per year. Prohibited items: freon appliances, refrigerator, freezer, air conditioners, heat pumps, dehumidifiers. Request a pickup through the Waste Connections app or call (402) 643-2054.
  • Reminder: Residential recycling collection is every other Thursday. Upcoming recycling collections days: April 30, May 14 and 28, June 11 and 25, July 9 and 23. Waste Collections crews switched out old recycling totes for new, 96-gallon blue totes with green lids. If residents do not have a new tote or the old tote was not picked up, please call Public Works, 402-826-4312, or Waste Connections, 402-643-2054. Pinnacle Bank Free Shred Day: Bring old paperwork to be shred for FREE on Saturday, May 9 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Pinnacle Bank, 143 East 13th Street, 402.826.2121. Please no 3-ring binders, cardboard or plastic. Maximum of 10 boxes per person. Help stock the BVCA Saline County Food Pantry - requested items: baby wipes, laundry soap, pancake mix and syrup, jelly, and granola bars. 

Transfer Station Specials: No fees will be charged at the Transfer Station for major appliances delivered on Tuesday, May 5 or Saturday, May 9; yard waste or brush and metal or iron items can be dropped off for free. All appliances with freon must have it removed and tagged prior to disposal.

Fees are charged for certain garbage items and a coupon is available from the local newspaper advertisement in The Crete News (April 22 and 29) or downloadable flyer (link below) for Crete residents only to receive $5 off a load of refuse taken to the Transfer Station. (Multiple coupons can be used for multiple trips - see coupon details.)

Transfer station regular hours are Tuesdays, from 1 to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The station is located 1/2 mile north of Highway 33 and Boswell Avenue on the east side of the road (478 County Road 2300). Find out what materials are accepted at the Transfer station.

Curbside Pick-Up of Major Appliances: This service is offered by the City Public Works Department to Crete residents who call ahead to arrange a pick-up before Thursday, May 7 at 5 p.m. Pick-ups will be made Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, May 6, 7, and 8. Call the Public Works office at 402-826-4312. 

Appliances with freon must have it removed and tagged; no electronics/TVs/furniture.

Pick-ups will not be done for calls made after the deadline.

The Transfer Station is located at 478 County Road 2300 (North Boswell) for free disposal of yard waste and disposal of large loads of household trash with associated fees; special services are available during Spring Cleanup days, May 4 and 7.
