Public Information Meeting on Historic Preservation opportunties in Crete
A public information meeting will be held on Sunday, Oct. 26, at 2 p.m. in the Crete Carrier Community Room at Crete Public Library to provide details from the city's Historic Preservation Commission on upcoming opportunities for historic districts and properties. This will be the first of several meetings to share information on new programming. (Click the gallery for examples of Crete's historic homes and the Downtown Historic District.)
The Historic Preservation Commission was created in September 2022 with the adoption of the city's Historic Preservation Act. The purpose of this is in part to: Safeguard and foster civic pride in the City’s historical and cultural heritage; Protect, enhance, and perpetuate properties that have elements of historical and cultural significance; Promote revitalization, enhancement of property values, and economic development by preserving historic and cultural properties.
