Temporary parking changes on Main Ave during Highway 103 detour

Nebraska Highway 103 traffic will detour through downtown Crete starting May 4. There will be no parking on the north half of Main Ave between 12th and 13th streets and the separate turn lane on 13th east of Main will be removed during this time frame.

Nebraska Department of Transportation will start a milling, asphalt overlay, and guardrail installation project on Highway 103 South on Monday, May 4, to include the intersection at County Road I (Smithfield). The project is expected to last 60 days.

According to Nebraska DOT, traffic will be detoured along Highways 15 and 41 as well as Highway 33. After the initial closure, traffic will be maintained with flaggers and a pilot car.

Starting May 4, traffic will detour through downtown Crete on Main Ave and 13th Street. For the duration of the detour, there will be no parking on the north half of Main Ave from 12th to 13th streets and the separate turn lane on 13th east of Main will be removed to accommodate increased truck traffic onto and from Main Ave.

Nebraska DOT determined the details of the detour and requested the City of Crete's assistance and cooperation. The City Council passed resolutions approving the temporary parking changes on April 21.

The council also approved the current, angular parking spaces on Main Ave from 10th to 11th Streets be changed from 45 degrees to 30 degrees.
