ALLO Communications to invest in 10 gigabit network in Crete

ALLO Communications announced a new fiber project in Crete.

LINCOLN, NE (February 22, 2023) – ALLO Communications today announced a fiber-to-the-premise (FTTP) project offering up to 10 Gigabit bandwidth in Crete. ALLO leaders met with Crete’s City Council and Doane University leadership to share plans to enable world-class internet, telephone, video, and other broadband services.

A cable franchise agreement with ALLO was approved by the Crete City Council at the regular meeting on Tuesday (Feb. 21).

“The City of Crete is happy to announce that ALLO will be coming to Crete and will be able to offer a competitive choice for internet, video, and voice service," Crete Mayor Dave Bauer said. "The amount of bandwidth they will offer will help us in our economic development efforts. During the pandemic, we have learned the importance of having good, reliable broadband. The amount that ALLO is investing in our community shows me the commitment that they are making to Crete and that they will be a great partner with the city."

ALLO will host two community events in partnership with Doane University and the City of Crete this week, on Feb. 24.

  • ALLO will be at Henning Floral & Gift from 7:30 - 9:30 a.m. to answer questions and treat community members to coffee.
  • ALLO, Doane University and City of Crete leadership will have an open house at The 1206  from 4 - 6 p.m.,where Crete citizens and Doane University students can hear about the plans.

The FTTP network will feature up to 10 Gigabit symmetrical speeds providing equal upload and download speeds. Each business and residential customer will receive optimized services by a world-class Wi-Fi 6 router. Additionally, businesses of all sizes will be supported by ALLO’s fiber-rich network delivering active and passive solutions without installation fees and restrictive contracts, keeping services hassle-free. Internet, data transport, video, voice, and phone systems, as well as redundant connectivity to AWS, Azure, and other cloud providers are included in ALLO’s comprehensive communications and entertainment products.

"Our goal at ALLO is to develop long-term relationships with the communities we serve because being local is one of our core values. We look forward to partnering with the residents, schools, and businesses of Crete for many years to come,” ALLO General Manager Dave Miller said.

As a leader in higher education, Doane University benefits from an additional broadband circuit and a new fiber ring backbone, reducing outages and increasing capacity tenfold. Furthermore, these enhancements support new cutting-edge educational technologies, growing demand for online education, and business and industry partnerships.

Crete is an important addition to the 25 communities experiencing the ALLO Fiber difference in Nebraska, with a population of over half a million. Construction is scheduled to begin in the next few months, and customers will begin receiving service in late 2023.
