Milling/overlay projects completed Oct. 27

Portions of 12th Street, Linden Ave, Ivy Ave now open

Milling/overlay project street closures to start on Wednesday, Oct. 20.

Update, Oct. 27: The streets in this project are now open to traffic. Traffic cones may remain in place in some areas. Please use caution.

Update, Oct. 22: The asphalt milling and overlay project on portions of 12th Street, Linden Ave. and Ivy Ave. will not be completed this week as intended. Issues relating to failed concrete were revealed in areas after the surface was milled and will extend the time needed to overlay new asphalt. Work will continue through Monday (Oct. 25). The City will share updates on the project schedule as they are received.

The City of Crete was notified on Monday that an asphalt milling and overlay project will start on Wednesday (Oct. 20), temporarily closing portions of several well-traveled streets near the downtown area. This project is anticipated to be done this week.

Barricades will be placed to close the following street portions:

  • 12th Street from Linden to Hawthorne Avenues (4 blocks)
  • Linden Ave from 13th to 14th streets
  • Ivy Ave from 12th to 13th streets

When choosing an alternate route, drivers should please be observant of one-way streets surrounding Crete Elementary School. Linden Ave. is one way northbound from 9th to 11th streets; 11th Street is one way eastbound from Linden to Juniper; and Juniper Ave. is one way southbound from 11th to 9th streets.

The Crete City Council awarded this asphalt milling and overlay project to Constructors, Inc. in a vote at the Sept. 21 regular meeting in an amount not to exceed $115,000.
